Edinburgh, EH3 9HHA year after she participated in our inaugural group show Thrills, we are delighted to be presenting a solo exhibition by Sophie Hall at Concrete Block Gallery. Responding to the host gallery’s unique location, Rogue Trader is an evocative installation comprising of recent sculptures and pivotal early paintings. 

Sophie Hall, an Edinburgh-based sculptor, constructs her practice around the uncanny moment of the double-take - that split-second when perception falters and curiosity is piqued. Her assemblages, composed of found materials, provoke visual dissonance. The head of a hammer softens into foam; a coiled pipe becomes a twisted candle. Drawing on the gendered visual languages of construction and domesticity, she translates these into the absurd, reframing the everyday and inviting viewers to linger in ambiguity. In doing so, static material is transformed into something alive with wit and quiet provocation.
